Seabird - Rescue

Not very often do I fall in love with a new band so quickly. Recently it was Seabird. As far as I know, the first time I ever heard them sing a song was in concert this past fall when they opened for The David Crowder* Band. I really, really liked them and wondered why I hadn't heard of them before. Give them a chance. Their new album is excellent, Rocks Into Rivers, but this song comes from their debut album.

After playing this video and sharing the lyrics to this song my one question, to my students, was "Who needs rescued?"

And the answer is....all of us. We all need rescued from the penalty of sin. The separation from God. We need Him to reach out and Rescue us. Peter comes to mind when I hear this song. He gets up enough courage to step out of the boat during the storm and walk on water to Jesus. But he loses faith and starts to doubt which leads to sinking but Jesus is there to pick him back up (rescue him). What a great connection.

Please watch this video and really listen to the words. Great song to start 2010 with.

God bless.
