Matthew 5:14-16 says, "You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden. Nor do people light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a stand, and it gives light to all in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven."
As a child, I sang "This little light of mine" many, many, many times. At the time, it's all about the hand motions and silliness. We let it shine. We hide it under a bushel - "No!" We won't let Satan blow it out. But as an adult I realize that the meaning is so rich. Our light goes out so easily sometimes. Sometimes it's our own fault and other times we blame our circumstances or someone else. Any way you look at it we need that light/fire back. We are called to share the love of God, hope in Christ and power through the Holy Spirit. What a mighty call. Thank God we don't have to do it on our own. He is always with us. It was never my light anyhow. It's God's light shining in a dark world (John 9:5).
