Luke 8 showcases the power that our God has over the evil spirits/demons of our world. Jesus steps out of the boat into the region of the Gerasenses and is met immediately by guy who has been possessed by many demons for some time. He is currently living among the tombs and seems to have some trouble interacting with others (maybe partly because he goes around without clothes on). So Christ immediately heals him by commanding the evil spirit to come out of the man. One of the cool things is when they meet the demons recognize on the spot that they are in the presence of the Christ (in the NIV it says, Jesus, Son of the Most High God.) So cool.
This also reminds me of one of my favorite scriptures: Ephesians 6:12 "For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against spiritual forces of evil in heavenly realms."
The brand new music video/song from Skillet, from the album Awake, is a bit disturbing for younger audiences but I think it is a good reminder that no matter what we are going through God is able to be victorious in every situation. Without Him we will not survive, we NEED His power and strength because we are battling against dark spirits and evil forces.
